I have very fond memories of him. He was quiet and very nice. I remember going to a junior high school dance with him. Phil was such a sweet, gentle guy.
I remember going to the Viet Nam War Memorial in DC in the late 80's with Liz (Oblad) Sonne to find Phil's name and pay our respects. We all lost friends far too early because of this tragic war.
My husband, kids and I went to the Vietnam Memorial Wall in '83....I traced Phil's name and cried for a handsome, gentle soul, taken too soon from us. My husband was one of the lucky ones who made it back from the War.
I transferred into Millburn High in December of 1961 from Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood, NJ. Phil was one of the first people I met in Gym class on the first day. He was so nice and so welcoming to me. He was a super nice person as everyone mentioned. I'm really sorry that I did not get to know him better and I was devastated too when I learned of his death shortly after his passing.
Stuart thank you for your post about Phil. I have a number of family members and friends who have been members of the 101st "Screaming Eagles."
That got me to thinking if the committee should consider inviting the families of deceased members of our class (parents, children, spouses) to join us if they can.
Phil was one of the three lost in Vietnam who were "back door" neighbors of mine at some point in my life. Phil was simply a gentleman, a genuinely nice guy. I never knew him well but all of my memories of him are good. Thank you for your service and great sacrifice, Phil. I'm sure I'm one of many who would like you to be joining us for this renunion. We will be thinking of you.
Phil and I dated in college. He was one of the finest people I knew. His absence to our society can't be calculated for the adult life he would have lived among us.He was devoted to protecting goodness against evil and he wanted to serve in Vietnam. His goodness is not forgotten as he is remembered so fondly. Cindy
