If you were in an MHS class with Richard, you knew he not only looked like he was smart, he was. Not a showy "raise your hand with the answer" type of student; he just had it.

I got to know Richard more personally over 10 years ago while he was working for a group that handled estate sales in the Millburn area. When my Mom died in 2003, he and his group helped me with the estate sale. It was a very difficult time for me, as I had to handle it all for my family. He kindly picked out items he thought I shouldn't part with and even detected my being an avid fan of Hopalong Cassidy! He helped me reminisce with a smile during a difficult time.

Getting to experience him and his wit and his amazing mind led to our seeing each other a few times after the 40th reunion. One most memorable was the lunch I made for him and his brother at my apt. here in NYC. It was hilarious. I can only guess his brother was devastated at losing Richard so suddenly.

I can tell you -- classmates of MHS 1963 -- that his recall of many of us, crazy things we did, was astonishing. All in humor, all with wisdom. He truly seemed to be fond of the Class of 1963. For me, Richard will be one of our classmates I will miss most at our 50th.
