I am sure there will be many posts about Ruth.  She left us way too soon but gave us a prescious gift -- the gift of understanding the quality, and fragility, of life.  She will always be ageless to those that grew-up with her.  And we'll remember how her mother, Eva, spent a lifetime fighting for others to survive kidney disease.  Thank you Ruthie.

Dear Ruth,

Yours was the first funeral I had ever attended...You looked like a sleeping angel. I am sorry for your mom,dad and big sister,to lose you so soon.I often think in today's medical advances, you would be alive and enjoy a happy life as many of us have had.....we missed you in our high school days....sleep on,beauty...Nora Godwin Johnson

Ruth died young, but her memory will live forever in the hearts of the young children suffering from chronic kidney disease who attend camp every year.

I am on the board of the Ruth Gottscho Kidney Foundation, and until you talk with these campers, you can't appreciate how much two weeks at Frost Valley YMCA camp means to them.

I talked with 16 year-old Daniel this summer while he was getting dialysis at the camp. I asked him what he would say to Ruth if he could talk to her.  His eyes lit up, a smile creased his face and he practically shouted; "OMG, thank you, thank you.  This is the best summer of my life."

Ruth always dreamed of going to summer camp.  Daniel lived her dream.  This is why I work for the RGKF.This is the best memory of Ruth.

We are currently looking to expand the board of the Ruth Gottscho Kidney Foundation.  Anyone interested please send me a message. Donations are also welcomed.

Ruthie was a very special angel who left us way too soon. I remember going to her home after school to help fold bandages for her mom, etc. Ruthie left us way too early in life. What a wonderful friend she would've made if she had grown up. Her funeral was the first I had ever attended and she looked like sleeping beauty. I willl always miss you sweet friend.

Oh Ruth.

So many memories:

Playing hopscotch in your front yard,

sneaking into your sister Judy's room,

playing with the dog  in your backyard,

you playing some ancient instrument like the Autoharp?,

You having to drink  juice concoctions they hoped would help your failing kidneys,

your wonderful parents, Eva & Ira,

and just years ago reconnecting with Judy through work on the Ruth Gottsco Kidney Foundation & seeing its wonderful camp dialysis center for kids.

I still remember my parents getting the call that you had died, the funeral where my sister had to support me walking  away from the open casket, and I still wear the Tree  of Life charm your mother gave me.

You are often in my thoughts , you enriched my life with your friendship  & courage, and through it all, I remember your smiling face.
